Keyboard shortcuts

devBoard has seven keyboard shortcuts, and this page lists them all. They come from the same list the app uses for its own shortcut sheet, so the two always match. A keyboard shortcut is a key, or a few keys pressed together, that does a job without the mouse.

On a Mac the main key is ⌘. On other devices with a keyboard, it is Ctrl.

All shortcuts

Mac Other devices What it does Where it works
⌘K Ctrl+K Opens the command palette Anywhere, even while you type
⌘, Ctrl+, Opens Settings Anywhere
? ? Shows the shortcut sheet When you are not typing
Esc Esc Closes the top window, or goes back Outside text fields
G G Goes to My Work When you are not typing
N N Opens New item On a project's board or list
1 to 9 1 to 9 Moves the open task to that column With a task open

Single keys and typing

G, N, ? and the digits do nothing while the cursor is in a text field. So when you type "Notes" as a title, you get the word. You do not get a new item. Click outside the field first, then press the key.

The command palette

Press ⌘K to open it. Type part of a title to find a project, a saved view or a task. You can also type a key, like APP-42. On a Mac, the sidebar has a Command palette button too.

The palette also runs commands, like Go to My Work and Go to Projects. The others are Go to Saved views, Go to Members, Go to Settings and Toggle light / dark. Inside a project, it lists that project's Board, Epics, Releases and Tags.

Use the arrow keys to move, Enter to open and Esc to close. The palette looks at titles and keys only. It does not search descriptions or comments.

New item with N

Open a project's board, or switch it to the list. Press N, and the New item window opens for the first column. Type a title and press Enter to create it. The buttons under the title set the level, the status, the people and more. Create epics, tasks and subtasks walks through them.

Move a task with 1 to 9

Open a task and press a digit. 1 moves it to the first column, 2 to the second, and so on. A project can have up to 20 columns. For the tenth column and up, use the Status field. Guests cannot move tasks, so the digits do nothing for them.

The Mac menu bar

The Mac app has a real menu bar. Each item does the same job as its shortcut.

Menu Items
devBoard Go to Settings, Hide, Quit
Go Command palette, Go to My Work, Go to Projects, Go to Saved views, Go to Members
Window Minimize, Zoom, Enter Full Screen
Help Keyboard shortcuts

Help → Keyboard shortcuts opens the same sheet as ?. It is the place to look if you forget a key.

The window remembers its place

The Mac app remembers how big the window was and where it was. It opens there the next time. If that spot was on a screen that is no longer plugged in, the window opens in the middle instead.

Questions people ask

Can I change the shortcuts?

No. The keys are fixed. This page and the app's own ? sheet come from the same list, so they always match.

Why does N do nothing?

N only works on a project's board or list. It also does nothing while the cursor is in a text field, so a title that starts with N types as normal.

Is there a shortcut for search?

Yes, the palette. Press ⌘K, or Ctrl+K, and type part of a title or a key like APP-42.
