Connect devBoard to Claude Code

When you finish, Claude Code can read your tasks, comment, move cards and track your time. It takes about two minutes.

MCP is the open standard that lets an AI assistant use other tools. devBoard is an MCP server. Claude Code is the client.

What you need

Steps

1. Open the right workspace

A token belongs to the workspace that is open when you make it. If you have several, switch to the right one first.

2. Make a token

Go to Settings → Developer. Click New token. Name it "Claude Code", so you know later what it is for.

3. Copy the token

It is shown once. After that you only see its first few characters. If you lose it, make a new one.

4. Add devBoard to Claude Code

Run this in a terminal. Put your token in place of <your-token>:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user devboard https://api.getdevboard.app/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer <your-token>"

--scope user makes devBoard available in every project. Leave it out to add it to the current project only.

5. Check the connection

Open Claude Code and type /mcp. You should see devboard in the list, marked as connected.

6. Ask something

Type: "What's on my plate today?" Claude calls the my_work tool. It lists your tasks as Overdue, Today, This week, Later and No date.

Check that it works

If step 6 lists your tasks, you are done. If the list is empty, you may have nothing assigned to you. Ask Claude to make one: "Create a task called Test the MCP link and assign it to me." Then ask again.

What to try next

If it does not work

What you see Why What to do
401 or "unauthorized" The token is wrong or was revoked Make a new token and run the add command again
No Developer section in Settings You are on a phone or iPad Use the Mac app
"Guests can look" or similar Your role is guest Ask an admin to make you a member
Claude sees the wrong projects The token is for another workspace Make a token in the right workspace
You work with several clients One token covers one workspace Add one server per workspace, like devboard-acme and devboard-globex

Keep the token safe

A token acts as you, with your role. It cannot delete items or manage members. If it ends up somewhere it should not be, revoke it in Settings → Developer. It stops working at once. devBoard only stores a hash of it, so nobody can read it back out. More on the MCP page.

Questions people ask

Can Claude see all my workspaces?

No. A token belongs to one workspace, the one that was open when you made it. For several workspaces, make one token each and add each one as its own server.

Can Claude delete my tasks?

No. It can archive an item, but not delete one. It also cannot change workspace settings or manage members. Those stay in the app.

Does this cost extra?

No. Free while in early access; paid plans will be one plain number, posted here first.
