Invite your team and your clients
When you finish, the people you work with are in your workspace, each with the right role. It takes about three minutes. A role decides what a person can do in one workspace: owner, admin, member or guest.
Luka, Mira and Ivan are a three-person studio shipping a mobile app. Luka made the workspace, so he is its owner. He invites Mira as an admin and Ivan as a member. The client who pays for the app gets a guest invite. The client can follow the board but cannot move a card.
What you need
- Your role is admin or owner in the workspace. Only an owner can invite another owner.
- The email address of each person.
- The people you invite need devBoard on iPhone, Android or Mac. Here is where to get the apps.
Steps
1. Open Members
Open the workspace switcher at the top of the sidebar, or at the top of the screen on a phone. Choose Members. You see everyone in the workspace with their role.
2. Press Invite
Press Invite at the top of the screen. A window called Invite someone opens.
3. Enter the email and pick a role
Type the address under Email address. Under Role, pick Admin, Member or Guest. Owners also see Owner.
| Role | What they can do |
|---|---|
| Owner | All an admin can do. Can also make other owners. A workspace always keeps at least one. |
| Admin | Invite and remove people, change roles, and make projects, columns, releases and tags |
| Member | Create and edit tasks, comment, track time, connect an AI assistant |
| Guest | See the workspace. Cannot change anything or comment. |
4. Send the invite
Press Send invite. A message says the invite was sent to that address. The address now shows under Pending invites.
5. They accept from the email
The person gets an email asking them to join the workspace. They sign in to devBoard with the address the invite went to. Then they press Accept invite in the email. The app opens and they join.
6. Or they paste the code
If the button does not open the app, they use the code in the email. In devBoard they open the switcher, choose New workspace, then I have an invite. They paste the code into Invite code and press Join workspace. A brand new account sees I have an invite right after sign-in.
7. Revoke an invite you no longer want
On Members, find the address under Pending invites and press Revoke invite. The link and the code stop working. This step is optional.
Check that it works
On Members, the person moves from Pending invites to the list of members, with the role you picked. On their side, the workspace now shows in their switcher.
An invite lasts seven days. If it runs out, send a new one. A new invite to the same address replaces the old one.
What to try next
- Freelancer? Set up one workspace per client and invite each client as a guest.
- Create epics, tasks and subtasks, then assign them to your new members.
- Members can connect Claude Code, so their AI assistant works in devBoard as them.
- See all guides.
If it does not work
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No Invite button | You are a member or guest | Ask an admin or the owner to invite them |
| "That doesn't look like an email address." | The address has a typo | Check it and try again |
| "That already exists." | The person is already a member | Find them in the list and change their role there |
| "This invite has expired. Ask for a new one." | More than seven days passed | Send a new invite |
| "This invite was sent to a different email address." | They signed in with another address | Sign in with the invited address, or invite the one they use |
| "This invite has already been used." | They already joined | Look for the workspace in the switcher |
| No email arrived | It went to spam, or the address is wrong | Check spam, then revoke and send again |
Questions people ask
Can a guest leave comments?
No. A guest can see the workspace, its tasks, comments and logged time. They cannot change anything or comment. Make them a member if they should.
Can I change someone's role later?
Yes, if you are an admin or owner. Open Members, use the menu on their row and pick a new role. Only an owner can make someone an owner.
What happens to someone's tasks when I remove them?
Their tasks stay where they are. They lose access to the workspace, and nothing they made is deleted.
Free while in early access; paid plans will be one plain number, posted here first.
