Saved views
A saved view is a filter you build once, give a name and keep. It answers questions a board cannot, like "what is assigned to me, due this week, in any project". You can keep a view to yourself or share it with the workspace.
How it works
You build a filter one condition at a time. Each condition is a field, a test and a value, like "priority is any of high, urgent". Then you choose to match all of them or any of them.
You can filter on these fields:
- Status, which is one column, and status category, the group behind it
- Assignee and created by
- Tags (labels), type, release, project, priority and level. A release is the version a task ships in.
- Due date, start date, completed, created and updated
- Title, which matches words in the task title
- Archived, to bring archived tasks back into view
Assignee can be Me, which means whoever is looking. Dates can be fixed or relative: today, yesterday, tomorrow, the start or end of this week, in 7 days or in 30 days. Relative dates move with the calendar. So "due on or before the end of this week" still works next month.
As you build, the dialog counts how many tasks match. A view can cover one project or every project in the workspace. You pick a board or a list, and how to sort it. The same filter drives both, so a view shows the same tasks either way.
Views are private at first. Share one, and everyone in the workspace can open it. Only the person who made it, or an admin, can change it. Your views also show up in the ⌘K palette, as the keyboard page explains.
An example: Luka, Mira and Ivan
Luka, Mira and Ivan are a three-person studio shipping a mobile app. Mira builds a view called "Bugs this week". It has three conditions. Type is Bug. Due date is on or before the end of this week. Status category is none of Done and Cancelled. She sets it to every project, shows it as a board and shares it.
Now Luka and Ivan open the same view each morning. Ivan also keeps a private one, "Mine, no date": assignee is Me and due date is empty. On Fridays he goes through it and gives each task a date, so it shows up in My Work at the right time.
What it does not do
- One level of conditions. A view matches all or any, not a mix of both.
- No full-text search. Text matches the title only, not descriptions or comments.
- No calendar, timeline or Gantt. A view is a board or a list.
- No grouping by person. A board view groups cards by column.
- No dragging on a view's board. Move cards on the project board.
- A view shows at most 500 tasks. If you need more, narrow it.
Set it up
Open Saved views and press New view. Add a condition, name the view and save it. The guide to saved views and filters has a few views worth copying. Or see all devBoard features.
Questions people ask
Can a guest use saved views?
Yes. A guest can save private views. Only members, admins and owners can share a view with the workspace.
Can a view search inside descriptions or comments?
No. The title field matches words in the task title only. There is no search of descriptions or comments.
What does Me mean in a shared view?
It means whoever is looking. A shared view called Mine shows Luka his own tasks and shows Mira hers.
