Drive it from the keyboard

The devBoard Mac app is made for a keyboard. A command palette opens with ⌘K. One key takes you to My Work or starts a new task. Number keys move a task between columns. The common moves need no mouse, and there is a real menu bar when you want one.

How it works

Keys What it does
⌘K Open the command palette
⌘, Open Settings
? Show every shortcut
Esc Close or go back
G Go to My Work
N New task, on a board or a list
1 to 9 Move the open task to that column

Off a Mac, Ctrl takes the place of ⌘. So the palette is Ctrl+K.

The palette lists the screens of the project you are in, your other projects, a few commands, your saved views and your tasks. Type to narrow it. It matches the start of a word or any part of it. It does not guess, so the same letters always bring up the same row. Tasks match by title or by key. The palette only looks at tasks the app has loaded, which is why it answers at once.

N puts the new card in the first column of the board. Type the title and press Enter. 1 to 9 work while a task is open. Press 3 and it moves to the third column. A tenth column is still a drag away.

One-key shortcuts pause while you type in a text field. So naming a task "Notes" does not open a new task. ⌘K and ⌘, still work while you type.

On a Mac there is a real menu bar. The Go menu has the palette, My Work, Projects, Saved views and Members. The Help menu has the list of shortcuts. A menu item with a key shows it, and does the same thing. The Mac app also remembers the size and place of its window.

An example: Luka, Mira and Ivan

Luka, Mira and Ivan are a three-person studio shipping a mobile app. Ivan starts his day with G to see My Work. He opens the first task, reads it and presses 3. On their board, the third column is In progress, so the card moves there.

A bug report comes in. He presses ⌘K and picks the board. Then he presses N, types the title and presses Enter. Later he needs Mira's task about push alerts. He presses ⌘K again, types "push" and opens it.

What it does not do

Set it up

There is nothing to set up. Press ? in the app to see the list. For a walk-through, read the keyboard shortcuts guide. Or see all devBoard features.

Questions people ask

Why did N type a letter instead of making a task?

A text field had focus. One-key shortcuts pause while you type, so a task called Notes does not open a new task. Leave the field and press N again.

Can I change the shortcuts?

No. The keys are fixed. Press ? in the app to see them all.

Does the palette search task descriptions?

No. It matches the titles and keys of tasks the app has loaded, plus projects and saved views. It is a quick way to jump, not a full search.
