Log time after the fact
When you finish, the time you forgot to track is on the right task, and the task's total is right again. It takes about three minutes. A time entry is one block of minutes on one task, logged by one person.
Ana is a freelancer with three clients. On Tuesday she forgets the timer after lunch. At five she opens "Menu page" in the bakery app workspace and logs 90 minutes. On Friday she asks her assistant for this week's timesheet. It lists her hours by day and by task, for that one client.
What you need
- devBoard on iPhone, Android or Mac, signed in as a member, admin or owner.
- The task or subtask you worked on. Epics, the big pieces that hold tasks, have no time of their own.
- For notes, earlier days, fixes and a weekly table: an AI assistant linked to devBoard. Connect Claude Code or Cursor first. That needs a token, a secret key made in the Mac app.
Steps
1. Open the task
Open the task you worked on. Its Time section shows the total so far.
2. Press Log time
Press Log time, next to Start timer. A small window opens and asks for Minutes.
3. Enter the minutes
Type a whole number from 1 to 1440 and press Save. So 90 is an hour and a half, and 1440 is a full day. The app saves the block as ending now, so it counts on today's date.
4. Check the total
Look at the Time section again. A new row shows your name, today's date and the minutes. The total goes up by the same amount.
5. Add a note or an earlier day
The app's window takes minutes only. For a note or a past day, ask your assistant in plain words. It uses the log_time tool and tells you what it saved. For example, type this:
Log 45 minutes on BAK-12 for yesterday at 3 pm, note: call with the owner
6. Get your timesheet
Ask your assistant to show your timesheet for this week. The timesheet tool lists your time per day and per task, with totals. It covers this week so far, unless you name other days. Each entry in it has an id.
7. Fix or delete an entry
Pick an entry from the timesheet and say what to change. Try "Make that entry 30 minutes" or "Delete that entry." Your assistant uses edit_time_entry or delete_time_entry. You can only change your own entries.
Check that it works
Open the task. Each block you logged has its own row under Time. Then ask your assistant how much time you logged this week. The answer should match what you expect, task by task.
There is no timesheet screen in the app. The assistant's timesheet is the weekly view. It shows only your own time, in the workspace its token belongs to.
What to try next
- Track time with the timer, so there is less to log by hand.
- Freelancers can set up one workspace per client. Then each timesheet covers one client.
- Read how time tracking works across devBoard.
- More step-by-step guides.
If it does not work
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Enter between 1 and 1440 minutes." | The number is 0, more than a day, or not whole | Type whole minutes. Split a longer block into two entries |
| No Log time button | You are a guest, or you opened an epic | Ask an admin to make you a member, or open a task |
| The entry shows today, not the day you worked | The app saves the block as ending now | Delete it with your assistant and log it again with the right day |
| "Only the person who logged time can change it." | The entry is someone else's | Ask them to fix it |
| "Stop the timer before editing it." | The entry is a timer that is still running | Stop the timer first, then edit |
| "Ask for at most three months at a time." | The timesheet range is too long | Ask for one month at a time |
Questions people ask
Is there a timesheet screen in the app?
No. The app shows the total on each task. For a table by day and by task, ask your assistant for your timesheet. It covers one workspace.
Can I log time for a teammate?
No. Every entry belongs to the person who logged it. Your teammate logs their own. Admins cannot change other people's time either.
Can I export my hours?
There is no export. Ask your assistant for your timesheet and copy the table it gives you.
