devBoard vs monday.com
Pick monday.com if many kinds of teams share one tool and shape it to fit. Pick devBoard if you are a small dev team and want a tracker ready for code on day one. The monday dev edition narrows the gap on its higher plans. We make devBoard, so keep that in mind as you read. Where monday.com is better, we say so.
The main difference: a tool you shape or one that comes shaped
monday.com bends to fit any team. You build each board with the columns you need, and link boards together. Its software edition, monday dev, adds sprints and a roadmap. On its Pro plan, it adds epics, tasks and subtasks.
devBoard is shaped for a small dev team from day one. A new project starts with To do, In progress and Done. An epic is a big piece of work split into smaller tasks. A subtask is one small step inside a task. A release groups the tasks that ship in one version. You cannot reshape it much, and that is the point.
An example: Luka, Mira and Ivan
Luka, Mira and Ivan are a three-person studio shipping a mobile app. In monday dev, they would first shape boards for their work. For epics and a timer, they would need the Pro plan.
In devBoard, Luka makes an epic called "Onboarding" with three tasks. Mira presses Start on "Welcome screen" on her phone. Ivan opens a pull request with APP-42 in its title. A pull request asks to merge a set of code changes into the main code. The card moves on its own. When 1.4.0 goes out, Luka marks the release shipped.
If the studio grows a sales team, monday.com starts to make sense.

What monday.com does better
Many ways to see the work
From Standard, a board can show as a timeline, a Gantt chart or a calendar. A Gantt chart shows tasks as bars across the weeks. Pro adds workload and chart views. devBoard shows a board or a list.
Automations
From Standard up, rules act on their own when something changes. devBoard has no automations. A person moves the card, or a pull request does.
Sprints in monday dev
The monday dev edition has sprints with story points from Standard. A sprint is a fixed stretch of time with a set list of work. devBoard has no sprints. Small teams use releases instead.
A browser and Windows
monday.com runs in any browser and has a Windows app. A new hire can start from any laptop. devBoard does not run in a browser, and its Windows app is not out yet.
What devBoard does better
Ready for dev work on day one
Epics, tasks and subtasks are there from the first project. Each task has a type, such as Feature or Bug, and can join a release. More on epics, tasks and subtasks.
A timer without the Pro plan
Press Start on a task or subtask, then Stop. The total sits next to the estimate. In monday.com, time tracking is on Pro and Enterprise only. More on time tracking in devBoard.
Your assistant can start the task
Say "start APP-42" in Claude Code or Cursor. devBoard assigns you, moves the card to In progress, starts your timer and gives you a branch name. A branch is a separate line of work in your code.
